The use of technology in the hands of semi-educated or unmindful professionals can have disastrous consequences. Consider the following example:

On July 26, a customer of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) received an email stating that they needed to visit their base branch to execute a revised locker agreement as per RBI guidelines. On August 14, the customer received a follow-up email stating that their executed supplementary locker agreement had been received. However, on August 23, the customer received yet another email stating that they were still yet to execute the supplementary agreement. This was followed by a third email on August 24.

The result of these unnecessary emails was irritation, wasted time, and network congestion. This is just one example of the many ways in which technology can be misused by semi-educated or unmindful professionals.

A simple solution to this problem would be to add a flag to the “date of execution” column in the software. This would allow the system to automatically send a reminder email only if the agreement has not been executed by the specified date.

The question remains: are we incompetent or just callous? Are we not teaching our students how to use technology responsibly?

It is important to remember that technology is a tool, and like any tool, it can be used for good or for evil. It is up to us to ensure that we use technology wisely and responsibly.

Here are some additional ways to improve the use of technology in the workplace:

Provide training to employees on how to use technology effectively and efficiently.
Create policies and procedures for the use of technology, and enforce them consistently.
Monitor the use of technology to identify and address any potential problems.
Encourage employees to report any misuse of technology.
By taking these steps, we can help to ensure that technology is used for the benefit of everyone.
